What Am I Feeling?

Such an interesting question.  When I went through coach training we did a lot of work on feelings.  When I was first asked to describe what it was I was feeling I said things like.  "I don't know, I am frustrated because I can't reach the goals I see." or "I don't think I will ever live in a world where chocolate doesn't control me."

I thought at the time my answers were the correct way to describe a feeling.  Let me open your mind to how to feel what you are feeling.

Let's look at the picture on this post.  What do you think when you look at this picture?  Maybe, "Oh how cute, I just want to cuddle up with that sweet kitten, it looks so soft and inviting." Now, tell me what you feel.  Instead of finding similar answers as above, truly tell me what you are feeling.  Check in with your body and the sensations that are happening and describe those to me.

When I look at this picture I have do have thoughts from above of wanting to cuddle and hold a cute creature, but as I start to check in with my body, this is what I am literally feeling: I am feeling warmth in my chest, I feel tingling from my chest radiating up through my shoulders down my arms and out my fingertips.  The feeling is slow and calm, it has a very light blue/pinkish color.  Now ask yourself "What am I feeling?" and give these sensations or vibrations a name.  For me, I am feeling Love.

This is what feeling an emotion is like and it is a really neat experience.  As I do this the emotion comes and goes.  I promise you you can feel any emotion when you allow yourself to check in with your body and describe what it going on and all emotions will come and go.  Whether it is love, anger, fear, joy. they are all available to you and are all a part of this beautiful life experience.
